ANOTHER Corsair, David? Really???

Well, Yes. Here are some pictures of the Goodyear FG-1D i'm building from Marine Fighting Squadron 512, deployed aboard the USS GILBERT ISLANDS in July 1945. She was also known as "The Mad Cossack", and the decals are based on photos from the collection of Adam Lewis. She was photographed ...

Re: First of the Production Birdcages- F4U-1 WIP

Hi Everyone, Um....OK, i've been a bit slow in posting a staus update, so here are some new selected in-progress pics. Here you can see an almost seamless evolution except where i skipped ahead and painted the national insignias. But, you still get the idea. Enjoy. http://i203.photobucket.com/albums...

Dimensions of the Original Corsair Wheel/ Tyre assembly

Hi everybody, i am working on a F4U project and i need to talk to someone who has direct access to a original F4U or F6F wheel and tyre assembly. This is the original style multi-piece, open-spoke wheel design, not the later one-piece, drop-forged wheel type used on postwar and warbird restorations....

Re: Project: Obsessive Corsair Disorder

Allan, can i take you up on your offer of that pic of the prototype FG-1? i stumbled upon a bunch of FG-1 Corsair production photos on Flickr, and if i'm looking at what i think i am, the first Goodyear FG-1 may have actually been a knocked-down F4U (Blue Gray on Light Gray Paint Scheme), but the se...

UPDATE, and an answer to Allan's question...

Hi Allan, Heres some new pictures. As you can see, i got a bit lazy with detailing the engine. Wiring all those 72nd scale R-2800s burned me out. http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa296/Falcon50EX/F4U-1/DHF4U-1Powerplant001.jpg http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa296/Falcon50EX/F4U-1/DHF4U-1Powerp...

Re: main landing gear

Hey the illustrations of the strut look great, but i'm confused by something. Looking at the illustration, one is led to believe the the strut trunnion somehow attaches to the wing spar. i believe this is not the case. Looking at other illustrations of the wing structure, i believe there are two rib...

Re: Vought F4U-2, VMF (N)-532, Roi-Namur Atoll, 1944 (Tamiya

Like i said, it's a missing link. VF(N)-75 and VF (N)-101 used them too but their air-to-air results were unremarkable. Not sure which unit it was, but "Chick" Harmer played an important role during the infamous "Mission Beyond Darkness", intercepting lost aircraft low on fuel, a...

Finished: Vought F4U-1D, USS BENNINGTON, 1945

OK, some more 72nd scale Corsair pics. Here are some in progress shots of my Tamiya F4U-1D, in the markings of Maj. Herman Hansen (no relation) From VMF-112 aboard BENNINGTON. This paint scheme has been well-known for a while, but fortunately it hasn't achieved "Cliche" status like Kepford...

Re: Natives on Falalop, Ulith See F4U

Interesting photo. The photo is indeed not reversed. If it were, there would be a thin white vertical "stripe" leading from the kick step on the fuselage side to the canopy sill. The location of the antenna lead-in has puzzled me for a while. I don't know exactly when Vought built their la...

First of the Production Birdcages- F4U-1 WIP

First off, Apologies to Allan whose seen this too many times and is probably sick of it. Here are some in-progress pics of BuAer 02153, which was the first production F4U-1. It is based on some photos i got from a friend that were taken of the original at the Vought plant in Bridgeport, CT in June o...

Re: F4U-1A Detail Questions

Joe, i don't know if you tried it, but my suggestion would be to try cutting a very thin strip from a piece of Microscale white decal. First off you also want to dip the windscreen in Future. Second will need to paint the frames the regular colours of interior green, black, dark sea blue, etc. When ...

Re: Corsair restoration Trumpeter 1/32

Truly amazing work. Especially the wing spar. That one piece is the most complicated part in the whole F4U, and i don't know if anyone has managed to replicate one from scratch yet.

Thanks for posting!

Re: Corsair interoir colors by William Reece

Tank, thanks for posting this.
There's a lot of missing and conflicting information on Corsair interiors, but this piece written by Mr. Reece is the most authoritative yet, and its stood the test of time well.

The First Goodyear FG-1 Corsair

Hi everybody, i'm brand new to this forum but have been a Corsair fan from way back. i'm wondering if anyone has seen photos of the very first Goodyear FG-1 as it was delivered from the Goodyear plant in Akron, OH. I do recall seeing a very small photo in Walter Musciano's old book on the F4U, which...

Re: tons o' pics from Facebook

I took a look at this a few nights back. Lots of stuff i'd seen before, but interesting stuff i had not. Just when there seems to be a pattern developing that helps to differentiate Vought, Brewster and Goodyear-built Corsairs you come across a picture that violates all the "rules". Back t...
